Jeff Beck set sights on US tour
Guitar legend Jeff Beck is gearing up for a US tour that will be his first in nearly 20 years to feature a lead vocalist.
The four-week outing kicks off Sept. 6 in Florida and is scheduled to hit theaters in 20 cities by the time it wraps up in the Phoenix area. Included in the itinerary is a Sept. 15 Boston-area performance with fellow six-string luminary Carlos Santana. Details are included below.
During the tour, Beck will head up a five-piece ensemble that will feature bassist Randy Hope-Taylor, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, keyboardist Jason Rebello and singer Beth Hart. Aside from a handful of sold-out dates on the West Coast earlier this year, the outing marks the first time Beck has performed in the US with a singer since hitting the stage with Rod Stewart in the early '80s, according to Beck's publicist.
"Fans who attend the shows can expect a rare visit to Beck's extensive catalog as well as a revealing glimpse of his next project," the guitarist's camp said in a press release.
Beck's career spans more than 30 years. In the mid-'60s, he replaced Eric Clapton in The Yardbirds, then went on to form the Jeff Beck Group in 1967, an outfit whose ranks featured Rod Stewart and future Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood. Various incarnations of that group followed, as did other solo projects and collaborations. The guitarist has slipped into semi-retirement on several occasions.
