Wilco makes fall tour plans, together and apart
Wilco will hit the road again in October, following a couple late-summer months when several of the band's members will be out working on their own solo projects.
Drummer Glenn Kotche will do some roadwork to back the March release of his third solo album, "Mobile," with Wilco guitarist Nels Cline along for support. The pair--who will perform solo sets and as a duo during the tour--will kick off their two week outing Sept. 10 in St. Louis.
Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy also has a couple of solo shows coming up as well: an Aug. 16 appearance in Raleigh, NC, and a slot at the Aug. 18 Folks Festival in Lyons, CO.
Finally, the whole band will reconvene Oct. 4 in West Lafayette, IN, the first date of a nine-city trip spread across a little more than two weeks. The outing consists mostly of headlining dates, with a single festival appearance--the Oct. 7 Tall Stacks Festival in Cincinnati--included in the itinerary.
Tickets for the opening show in West Lafayette are currently on sale. See the band's website for information as to when the group's other dates become available.
Wilco's most recent album was the live document "Kicking Television--Live in Chicago," which hit stores last November. The 23-song collection was recorded in May 2005 at Chicago's Vic Theatre. Wilco's last studio album was 2004's "A Ghost is Born," and the group has been at work on a new set in recent months.
Loose Fur, a collaboration involving Tweedy, Kotche, and multi-instrumentalist Jim O'Rourke (formerly of Sonic Youth), recently released "Born Again in the USA" on the Drag City label. The 10-song disc is the second offering from the impromptu outfit, following the group's 2003 self-titled debut.
