Briefly: Rolling Stones, Steve Earle, MTV VMAs, Shinedown
The Rolling Stones reportedly will perform during a 60th birthday celebration for former President Bill Clinton.
The Oct. 29 performance at New York City's Beacon Theatre reportedly will be one of a series of events to raise money for Clinton's charitable foundation. (Clinton's actual birth date is Aug. 19)
"President Clinton has dedicated his life to public service and his 60th birthday celebration will be no different," Clinton spokesman Jay Carson told the New York Post. "All of the funds from these events will go to support his foundation and its work around the world."
Singer/songwriter/troubadour Steve Earle has inked a recording deal with New West Records. His debut album for the label is expected to hit stores during the first half of 2007, the label said in a press release.
Earle exits Artemis Records, which issued his most recent set, 2004's "The Revolution Starts ... Now."
Actor Jack Black has been tapped to host the "2006 MTV Video Music Awards," which will air live on the cable network Aug. 31 from New York's Radio City Music Hall.
"My plan is to bring the thunder," Black said in a press release. "I've got my top men working on it as we speak in my thunder laboratory. Radio City Music Hall will never be the same."
Rockers Shinedown will perform an Aug. 17 concert for military personnel in Fort Bliss, TX, the USO announced. The group will also have a meet-and-greet with service members.
