More dates trickle in for The Who
With the launch of their North American tour just a little more than a month away, veteran Brit-rockers The Who continue adding dates to the run.
New to the band's itinerary are a September stop in Des Moines, IA, an early November show in San Jose, CA, and a late-November return to Philadelphia, where the band kicks off the trek on Sept. 12. Tickets for the Des Moines show go on sale Saturday (8/12), while those for the new San Jose and Philly dates, as well as a previously announced second night in Los Angeles, hit the box office Monday (8/14). Details are included in the itinerary shown below.
The upcoming tour couches the Oct. 23 release of "Who 2," the first new studio set from The Who since 1982's "It's Hard."
As previously reported, surviving group founders Pete Townshend (guitar) and Roger Daltrey (vocals) have recruited drummer Zak Starkey (son of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr), guitarist/vocalist Simon Townshend (Pete's younger brother), bassist Pino Palladino and keyboardist John "Rabbit" Bundrick to back them during the upcoming tour.
Original Who bassist John Entwistle died of a cocaine-induced heart attack in 2002 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, where the band was preparing for a North American tour that was scheduled to launch three days later. Daltrey and Townshend canceled the first two shows, but ultimately forged ahead with the outing.
Original drummer Keith Moon died of a drug overdose in 1978.
"This is not the old Who," Townshend wrote in a recent diary entry posted at his website. "We never said it would be. It is something else. It matters."
