Briefly: Katharine McPhee, Freddy Fender, The Knack, Hilary Duff
Katharine McPhee reportedly fractured her left foot before singing at Tuesday night's (8/1) "American Idols Live " tour stop in Charlotte, NC.
Despite the injury--said to be a hairline fracture that she suffered when she tripped backstage--McPhee performed two songs. She plans to remain on the tour.
McPhee missed the first three weeks of the tour due to a bout with bronchitis and laryngitis.
Veteran musician Freddy Fender , 69, has been told by doctors that he has incurable lung cancer.
Vangie Huerta, Fender's wife and manager, told Texas newspaper the Corpus Christi Times that Fender hasn't performed a concert since New Year's Eve.
Fender received a kidney transplant in 2002, and a liver transplant in 2004.
"I feel very comfortable in my life," Fender told the newspaper. "I'm one year away from 70 and I've had a good run. I really believe I'm OK. In my mind and in my heart, I feel OK. I cannot complain that I haven't lived long enough, but I'd like to live longer."
Doug Fieger, lead singer for The Knack , underwent surgery Thursday (8/3) at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for removal of two brain tumors, according to the group's publicist.
Fieger's doctor said that the surgery was successful, and the singer is expected to recover fully. However, The Knack has canceled all scheduled tour dates.
Pop singer/actress Hilary Duff performed a free concert Tuesday night (8/1) at Fayetteville, NC's Crown Coliseum for members of the US military and their families. Fayetteville is near the Fort Bragg Army base.
