Stones tap Kanye West to open select dates
The Rolling Stones have lined up rapper/producer Kanye West to open the first three stops on their upcoming North American tour.
West has signed on as a special guest for the tour's September stops in the Boston area, in Nova Scotia and in the New York City area. Tickets are on sale now for all three shows.
Meanwhile, ticket on-sales have been scheduled for two of the tour's other upcoming stops. Tickets hit the market Friday (8/4) for a newly announced, second show in Regina, Saskatchewan, set for Oct. 6; and Monday on-sales are planned for the tour's Nov. 17 stop in the Boise, ID, area.
The Stones have also made a couple of minor tweaks to their previously announced schedule, moving up the dates for its shows in Wichita, KS, and Missoula, MT. Details are in the itinerary below.
Members of the Stones' official fan club have access to pre-sale tickets and special VIP ticket packages for those shows beginning July 26. More information is available at the group's website.
The Stones continue to tour behind last year's "A Bigger Bang," the group's first new studio set since 1997's "Bridges to Babylon." The disc debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 album chart.
Concert-industry magazine Pollstar ranked the first North American leg of the Stones' "A Bigger Bang" outing as the second-highest-grossing tour of the first half of 2006. According to the magazine, the Stones took in $52.5 million, second only to Madonna's $54.3 million take.
The 2005 edition of the Stones' "A Bigger Bang" tour was the year's top-grossing outing, according to Pollstar. The group pulled down $162 million over the course of only 42 shows thanks to an average ticket price of about $134.
For the upcoming North American dates, 90% of the ticket inventory will be priced at $89 for the stadium shows and $99 for the arena shows, according to organizers, and a "limited number of Gold Circle seats" will be available as well.
