New Releases, Aug. 1: DMX, Five for Fighting, G. Love

Plus: Stone Sour , Glenn Hughes , more

DMX
"Year of the Dog ... Again"
(Sony)

It will hardly shock people if this record debuts at the top of the charts. Why? It's all about track record--and DMX has one of the most-impressive ones in the hip-hop game.

All of the rapper's five previous albums--from 1998's debut "It's Dark and Hell is Hot" to 2003's "Grand Champ"--debuted at No. 1.

DMX can certainly use some good news. Most of the recent buzz about the rapper has centered around his legal troubles stemming from an arrest for traffic violations.

Five for Fighting
"Two Lights"
(Sony)

Singer/songwriter John Ondrasik, better known to the world as the driving force behind Five for Fighting, returns with a follow-up to 2004's successful "The Battle for Everything."

Although other musicians contribute to the album, "Two Lights" serves mainly as another spotlight on Ondrasik's talents. Besides writing and singing every track, Ondrasik also co-produced and played multiple instruments on the album.

The first video/single from the CD is "The Riddle."

G. Love
"Lemonade"
(Brushfire)

The rapping funk wiz born Garrett Dutton has enlisted many of his talented friends for this project. "Lemonade" includes contributions from the likes of Blackalicious, David Hidalgo, Donovan Frankenreiter, Ben Harper and Jack Johnson, the surfer-turned-singer who is releasing this album on his own Brushfire label.

Stone Sour
"Come What(ever) May"
(Roadrunner)

Stone Sour, the band that proved to be a training ground for Slipknot's Corey Taylor and Jim Root, return with their first new studio album since 2002's eponymous affair. The band is obviously hoping that "Come What(ever) May" will be equally well-received as "Stone Sour," which went gold and collected two Grammy nominations.

Glenn Hughes
"Music for the Divine"
(Frontiers)

The former Deep Purple bassist, who is also known for his collaborations with Pat Thrall, returns with a follow-up to 2005's "Soul Mover." It's a star-studded affair that features The Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith and John Frusciante as well as Jane's Addiction alum Dave Navarro.
