Kem maps out late summer tour dates
R&B singer Kem has rolled out another set of dates in support of his sophomore effort, last year's "Album II."
The Detroit-born singer will make several festival appearances before heading off for his own headlining dates, which fall mostly in September. First up, though, Kem will tackle a slot at Cincinnati's July 28 Macy's Music Festival, which also features Earth Wind & Fire, Patti Labelle and Charlie Wilson.
The singer will also appear at the July 30 Los Angeles Jazz Festival, co-headlining a show that also includes Chaka Khan and Will Downing.
"Album II," initially released last may, features a number of guests, including Stevie Wonder, who contributes harmonica to the song "You Might Win."
Motown Records recently released an updated version of "Album II" that includes the original album, as well as a DVD featuring concert footage, behind-the-scenes clips, interviews and more.
Kem's debut album, 2003's "Kemistry," has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America for shipping more than 500,000 copies in the US.
Before landing a record deal, Kem was homeless, and supported himself and his family by waiting tables and singing Top 40 cover songs at weddings, according to a press release. He independently financed and released his first album before signing with Motown in 2002.
