Gnarls Barkley adds dates in the US and 'Elsewhere'
Fresh off a rave-drawing set at London's O2 Wireless Festival, alternative hip-hop duo Gnarls Barkley has announced a slew of new US dates for this summer.
The pair--"sound architect" Danger Mouse and vocalist Cee-Lo--will hit San Francisco June 18 for the first of a two-night engagement. Another twin billing will follow a few days later in Los Angeles, before the duo jets to Japan for a July 28 appearance at the Fuji Rock Festival.
More dates will follow upon the group's return as the pair expands its tour to Midwest and East Coast locations. Pre-sale tickets for select shows are available through the band's MySpace site.
The duo is supporting its debut full-length release, "St. Elsewhere." The album, which hit stores May 9, broke into The Billboard 200 album chart at No. 8, and has sold more than 337,000 copies in the six weeks since it went public, according to a press release.
Gnarls Barkley came together in 2003 when Danger Mouse, who, in addition to producing Gorillaz, had become notorious for his underground mash-up success "The Grey Album" (which combined vocals by Jay-Z over backing music by The Beatles), began recording material with Cee-Lo, founding member of Atlanta's Goodie Mob.
A number of the duo's early recording experiments leaked onto the Internet, including "Crazy," which leapt to the top of the British digital download charts, creating a buzz which led to the recording of "St. Elsewhere."
