Revamped Everclear to return with 'Drama'
Everclear will return to its indie-rock roots with the release of "Welcome to the Drama Club," the retooled band's first new collection since 2003's "Slow Motion Daydream."
The disc, which is scheduled to ship Sept. 12, will mark the recorded debut of the current Everclear lineup, which frontman Art Alexakis fashioned after his 2003 solo-acoustic tour, replacing longtime members Craig Montoya and Greg Eklund with newcomers.
The upcoming album will also find Everclear returning to an independent label, Eleven Seven Music, for the first time since its 1994 indie debut, "World of Noise," was picked up by Capitol Records. Capitol went on to release all of the band's subsequent records, including 2004's 20-track retrospective, "Ten Years Gone: The Best of Everclear 1994-2004."
"All the heartache and hell I’ve been through has made me a better, more spiritual person," Alexakis said in a press release.
"It's a cycle," he said of the new album's sequencing. "Like a roller coaster. All my ideas about relationships are embedded in the record's ebb and flow. It's important to me to make a whole album, not just a series of songs. That's what I’ve always done and that’s what I continue to do."
The album's first single, "Hater," can be heard in its entirety on the band's MySpace site.
