Briefly: Aerosmith, Willie Nelson, Anne McCue, DMX
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry plan to play several Aerosmith songs with the Boston Pops during an Independence Day concert at Boston's Charles River Esplanade.
Tyler and Perry's appearance with the orchestra (under the direction of conductor Keith Lockhart) will be broadcast live during the "Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular," a special airing live on CBS-TV at 10 p.m. ET. Dr. Phil McGraw and his wife, Robin, will host the program.
XM Satellite Radio's traditional country station, "Hank's Place," will be relaunched on July 10 as "Willie's Place."
According to a press release, Willie Nelson "will provide creative direction for the channel, as well as contribute exclusive programming to 'Willie's Place' and other XM commercial-free music channels."
XM is building new studios for "Willie's Place" inside the Willie Nelson's BioDiesel Truck Stop in Carl's Corner, TX. The "Willie's Place" channel will begin broadcasting from Carl's Corner in 2007.
Australian-born, L.A.-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Anne McCue is set to issue her fourth album, "Koala Motel," on Sept. 19.
Guest vocalists who appear on the album include Lucinda Williams , John Doe, Jim Lauderdale and Heart's Nancy Wilson (who also plays mandolin on one track).
The set was co-produced by McCue with bassist Dusty Wakeman. Rounding out the group were drummer Dave Raven and keyboardist Carl Byron.
"The four of us have been working as a unit for the last two years, and we've become really close, musically and personally," McCue said in a press release. "We recorded this album as a band. Dave and Dusty are both from Texas, and I've come to realize Texans and Australians are very similar. Being part of such a great band is like a dream."
A judge in White Plains, NY, reportedly issued an arrest warrant for DMX after the rapper failed to appear in court Wednesday (6/28).
The judge previously granted DMX two court-date postponements. The rapper is charged with various traffic violations in New York.
DMX's attorney reportedly said that his client was ill, and that the rapper would turn himself in at the courthouse on Thursday (6/29).
