Grandaddy's Jason Lytle maps out solo tour

Jason Lytle, frontman of now-defunct indie rockers Grandaddy , will launch a solo acoustic tour this summer.

Shortly before the May release of Grandaddy's fourth album, "Just Like the Fambly Cat," the Modesto, CA, band announced that the disc would be its last. "We've seen an erosion happening," Lytle told pitchforkmedia.com at the time. "I use the word 'erosion' in the most natural way I possibly can. It's not entirely such a bad thing."

Although Grandaddy didn't tour or play any farewell shows in support of "Cat," fans of the group can take solace in Lytle's summer appearances, when he'll be performing material from the band's last album, according to his publicist.

Lytle's tour kicks off July 18 in Baltimore, and concludes with a two-night stand in Los Angeles starting Aug. 12.

Lytle, bassist Kevin Garcia, and drummer Aaron Burtch formed Grandaddy in 1992 in California's Central Valley. After the addition of guitarist Jim Fairchild and keyboardist Tim Dryden in 1995, the band released a few singles and EPs leading up to the 1997 full-length debut "Under the Western Freeway."

2000's "The Sophtware Slump" and 2003's "Sumday" followed before the group's most recent and apparently final album.
