Velvet Revolver gets out of studio for mini-tour

Multi-platinum rockers Velvet Revolver will take a break from work on their sophomore album to mount a brief tour of the West.

The group has lined up four late-July shows, beginning with a July 21 concert at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. The other three performances are set in the band's home state of California. Details are shown below.

The group--fellow former Guns N' Roses members Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass) and Matt Sorum (drums); former Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Scott Weiland; and former Wasted Youth guitarist Dave Kushner--is currently working on the follow-up to its 2004 debut, "Contraband."

"We have been working 5 days a week for the last month," Sorum wrote in a message posted Monday (6/19) at his official blog, "and have about 10 songs worked up." He went on to say that the band plans to start rehearsing for the mini-tour in a couple of weeks.

Though no release date for the new album has been set, fans can catch some new music from the group in the form of recently recorded cut that will turn up on the soundtrack for the forthcoming animated flick "Monster House," which hits theaters July 21.

Velvet Revolver is no stranger to soundtrack contributions; the band's first single, "Slither," turned up on the 2003 "Hulk" motion-picture soundtrack long before "Contraband" hit stores, and "Dirty Little Thing," also from "Contraband," appeared on last year's "XXX: State of the Union" soundtrack. Meanwhile, the band recorded a new song titled "Come On, Come In" for last year's "Fantastic Four" soundtrack.
