John Mayer, Sheryl Crow team for tour
By the time John Mayer 's new album hits stores in mid-September, he'll be halfway through a late-summer/early fall co-headlining tour with fellow singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow .
The pair is set to launch the run in late August, and stops are planned in about two-dozen cities. In addition, Mayer will turn up sans Crow at a couple of mid-September festivals, and is scheduled to cap the run with a mid-October, two-night stand in Atlanta. The itinerary is included below.
Tickets for the tour's first stretch of shows, as well as the Atlanta dates, go on sale Saturday (6/21), with the rest scheduled for release on July 5. Details are shown in the itinerary below.
Mayer is gearing up for the Sept. 12 release of "Continuum," his follow up to 2003's "Heavier Things." The new set features the forthcoming single "Waiting on the World to Change," which is now streaming at Mayer's website.
Last November, Mayer offered up the live set "Try!" The disc captures a September 2005 performance in Chicago featuring Mayer, bassist Pino Palladino (The Who, Jeff Beck) and drummer Steve Jordan (Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones), collectively billed as The John Mayer Trio. Fans who caught the group in concert might recognize some of the material on "Continuum."
"There should be three songs [on 'Continuum'] that were debuted on the Trio tour, but they've been really nicely fleshed out," Mayer wrote in a message posted at his MySpace website.
Crow, who is currently touring on her own, continues to support last year's "Wildflower," which features her latest single, "Always on Your Side," a duet with Sting.
Last month, Crow returned to the stage for the first time since undergoing surgery and treatment for breast cancer. As a result of her experience, a portion of the proceeds from every ticket sold on her upcoming tour with Mayer will benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, according to a press release.
