Sonic Youth [ tickets ] will occupy the opening slot on first leg of Pearl Jam [ tickets ]'s upcoming North American tour, which opens on Aug. 3 in Virginia Beach and runs through Sept. 5. Supergrass [ tickets ] will open the tour's month-long second leg, which opens on Oct. 4 in Montreal.

Last month, Pearl Jam announced 40 dates for a two-leg tour. However, the band -- notoriously protective of the information it releases to the press -- still has not announced the venues it will visit or ticket information.

Pearl Jam is scheduled to release a new album titled ''Binaural'' on May 16.
