Briefly: Snoop Dogg, Boston, James Hetfield, Alice in Chains

June 8, 2006 09:57 PM
Snoop Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound will issue "Cal Iz Active," their first album in more than a decade, on June 27.

Besides Snoop, the set features appearances by Daz Dilligner, Kurupt, Diddy, Lady of Rage, Nate Dogg, RBX, Ice Cube, David Banner and Paul Wall.

"I'm like the quarterback," Snoop Dogg said in a press release, "putting the team together, gluing it together. I'm the one that puts everything in the proper perspective. Get everyone thinking alike, moving alike, loving alike. Let everybody know that it's built on love first. If we love each other first, the music will kick right in."

Expanded, remastered editions of Boston 's first two albums--the band's self-titled, 1976 debut and 1978's "Don't Look Back"--are due in stores June 13.

For the first time, band mastermind Tom Scholz digitally remastered the albums himself.

Metallica singer/guitarist James Hetfield joined Alice in Chains as a special guest during the band's Friday (6/2) performance at the Rock Am Ring festival in Nuremberg, Germany.

Hetfield is the latest in a long list of well known artists who've turned up at recent Alice in Chains gigs, among them Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Chris DeGarmo (Queensryche), Ann Wilson (Heart), Duff McKagan (Velvet Revolver), Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) and Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees).
