X, Rollins Band tour 'As the World Burns'
The outing is set to launch on the West Coast in late July, and will work its way east before wrapping up Aug. 19 in Boston. Stops are planned in 18 cities. Details are included below.
"I can't wait to play with those guys," Rollins--who formerly fronted Black Flag and currently leads the Rollins Band --wrote of the upcoming tour in a post at his website. "It gives me a reason to train hard. X is one of the best live bands there is anywhere and we will have to be at the top of our game. We will be the opening band, which suits me fine as they have the seniority but it also puts them in the crosshairs. Any band I open for, I am dedicated to smoking them every single night. It’s the only way. A good challenge for me."
Rollins Band hasn't issued a new studio set since 2000's "Get Some Go Again," which featured Rollins backed by hard-rock power trio Mother Superior. Since then, Rollins has reunited with the Rollins Band lineup that recorded 1994's "Weight": guitarist Chris Haskett, drummer Sim Cain and bassist Melvin Gibs." No word yet on if/when the reconstituted group might issue a new disc.
X hasn't delivered a collection of all-new material since 1993's "Hey Zeus!" Last year, the group dished "Live in Los Angeles," a concert CD recorded during a pair of 2004 shows at the L.A.-area House of Blues.
The original X line-up--bassist/vocalist John Doe, singer Exene Cervenka, drummer D.J. Bonebrake and guitarist Billy Zoom--has toured sporadically in recent years, with its members pursuing various side and solo projects.
Doe--who last year issued his latest solo disc, "Forever Hasn't Happened Yet"--appeared as the musical guest on the most recent episode of Rollins' Independent Film Channel program, "The Henry Rollins Show." The episode, which debuted Saturday (5/27), will air again on Thursday (6/1), according to IFC's website.
