Radiohead's Thom Yorke readies new album
Thom Yorke , frontman for iconic alt-rockers Radiohead , has set a July 11 release date for an album of his own dubbed "The Eraser."
Despite the fact that Yorke wrote and recorded the entire nine-track set, the singer has made clear that there is no rift between he and his Radiohead bandmates.
"Yes, it's a record," he wrote in a recent message sent to Radiohead fans. "No, it's not a Radiohead record. As you know, the band are now touring and writing new stuff and getting to a good space, so I want no crap about me being a traitor or whatever, splitting up, blah blah. This was all done with their blessing."
Yorke--who described the album as "more beats and electronics, but it's songs"--said that he has "been itching to do something like this for ages." Nonetheless, the singer appears to have no plans of being known as a solo artist.
"And I don't wanna hear that word solo," his note continued. "Doesn't sound right."
Longtime Radiohead collaborator Nigel Godrich produced and arranged "The Eraser," the tracklisting for which appears below. Additional information is posted at the project's official website.
As previously reported, Radiohead will jet over to North America next month for a string of two-night stands at theaters throughout the US and Canada. The group, which hasn't issued a new studio album since 2003's "Hail to the Thief," plans to begin recording a follow-up after the tour. The new disc should surface sometime next year.
During its spring/summer tour, the group plans to road test new material that it is working up for the forthcoming album, according to a press release.
