Roseanne Cash takes 'Cadillac' to the road
Singer/songwriter Roseanne Cash has mapped out a summer's worth of dates--and more--as she continues to support her recent album, "Black Cadillac."
The singer, who just finished up a slate of performances, will next appear May 27 at the Florida Folk Festival in White Springs, FL, a remote town in the northern part of the state.
The bulk of Cash's summer dates kick off in late August, starting with an Aug. 24 concert in Ketchum, ID. Cash has already lined up dates well into 2007, so most of her fans should be able to catch her act somewhere around the country over the next year.
"Black Cadillac," which hit stores in January, explores themes of grief and acceptance, a process Cash has become familiar with in her personal life, losing her father (Johnny Cash), mother (Johnny Cash's first wife, Vivian Liberto) and step-mother (June Carter Cash) during the past two years.
The album's title track was written six weeks before June Carter's death, at a point no one knew she was even ill, according to Cash in her online bio, who calls the song "foreboding."
"I've always found that songs can be postcards from your future," she said. "I felt that I had to fit everything else around that song. That was the theme."
The album was co-produced by her husband, John Leventhal (Shawn Colvin, David Crosby), with Bill Bottrell (Sheryl Crow, Shelby Lynne).
"I'm still getting perspective on it," she said of the recent deaths in her family and the making of the new album. "I feel a little exhausted, and I still feel so many of the emotions that are in those songs. Some of them will never go away."
