Keith Richards undergoes surgery, Stones postpone tour
Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards underwent surgery Monday (5/8) morning in New Zealand to relieve pressure that had built up in his head after a recent fall.
"Last week Keith was under observation in Auckland following a fall in Fiji and was feeling well after being examined by doctors last week," reads a statement the band issued on Monday, "however after complaining of headaches yesterday doctors thought it prudent to move ahead with a small operation to remove the pressure."
The group's statement said that Richards' operation was a "complete success," and that he was "already up and talking with his family today," but that he will need "a few weeks recuperation."
As a result, The Rolling Stones have postponed the European leg of their "A Bigger Bang" tour, which was originally due to kick off at the end of this month. The run will now start sometime in June, and full details of the rescheduling will be announced "shortly."
One week ago, The Stones' camp issued a statement that said Richards had suffered "a mild concussion" while vacationing in Fiji, but didn't specify how he was injured. Various outlets have reported that the concussion was the result of a fall from a palm tree, a fall from a personal watercraft, or both.
