Wilco pushes north for early summer outing
Wilco has scheduled a short early summer tour, as the band gets back into the swing of things following a year that saw vocalist/guitarist Jeff Tweedy mainly concentrating on solo shows.
The Chicago-based band will mount a 12-city trek into Canada and the northern US, kicking off June 28 in Calgary, Alberta. Pre-sales for most of the tour dates will be made available beginning May 3 through Wilco's official website.
After the short outing, Wilco will then make an appearance at the Aug. 6 Lollapalooza festival in Chicago.
Wilco's most recent album was the live document "Kicking Television--Live in Chicago," which hit stores last November. The 23-song collection was recorded in May 2005 at Chicago's Vic Theatre. Wilco's last studio album was 2004's "A Ghost is Born."
The only remaining original members of Wilco are frontman/guitarist Tweedy and bassist John Stiratt. The group is rounded out by drummer Glenn Kotche, guitarist Nels Cline, programmer/keyboardist Mikael Jorgenson and keyboardist/guitarist Pat Sansone.
Loose Fur , a collaboration involving Tweedy, Kotche, and multi-instrumentalist Jim O'Rourke (formerly of Sonic Youth), recently released "Born Again in the USA" on the Drag City label. The 10-song disc is the second offering from the impromptu outfit, following the group's 2003 self-titled debut.
