Donavon Frankenreiter eyes tour behind new album
Singer/songwriter Donavon Frankenreiter has mapped out a West Coast tour behind his latest solo record, "Pass It Around," which dropped in August.
The California native, currently on a European tour, mounts the American run Feb. 11 in La Jolla, CA. The outing's first 11 shows are in the singer's home state before the trek heads to other parts of the country, finishing in mid-March with a slate of Colorado dates. Details are below. Information on Frankenreiter's overseas schedule can be found at his website.
Frankenreiter enlisted veteran producer Joe Chicarelli (U2, The Shins) to record "Pass It Around," his follow-up to 2006's "Move By Yourself."
"On my first record, I didn't have a direction. I just wanted to make a record," said Frankenreiter, who released his self-titled debut album in 2004, in his bio. "The second one ['Move By Yourself'] I did myself and it definitely had a direction I felt great about. On 'Pass It Around,' I definitely had a lot of ideas and it was fun putting trust in other people."
Frankenreiter also had help from a roster of big-name musical talent on the record, including Ben Harper, G. Love and Grant Lee Phillips, who collaborated with Frankenreiter on the track "Mansions on the Sand."
"I had an amazing experience with Grant Lee Phillips. I had a verse of a song and I had no lyrics for and couldn't find a chorus. So we worked on it together, found a chorus and then let it go for awhile. When he sent it back to me, I was blown away."
