Blondie 's founding guitarist Chris Stein went to the Big Apple in the early '70s to play in a band like the New York Dolls . During a stint with The Stilettos , he fell in love with then-waitress Deborah Harry. A year later, Stein and Harry formed their own band and called themselves Angel and the Snake. However the forgettable title was quickly replaced, legend has it inspired by a catcall Harry often received from obnoxious truck drivers: "Hey Blondie!" With a mix of pop and punk that's credited with pioneering New Wave, the group was a darling of the infamous club CBGB. The group found some success in the UK and Australia before American fans caught on, but the release of "Parallel Lines" in 1978 launched the group to superstardom. In 2006, Blondie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  / Read more
