Sheikh sues Michael Jackson for millions

Michael Jackson has been sued by the son of an Arab monarch, who claims the performer took a $7 million advance on an album and autobiography that he never produced.

An attorney for Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, an amateur songwriter, said his client wanted to work with Jackson on rebuilding his career and the two had planned to record an album together, according to an Associated Press report.

Al Khalifa reportedly paid $2.2 million toward Jackson's legal bills following his 2005 trial on child molestation charges.

After the trial, Al Khalifa reportedly moved Jackson and his entourage to Bahrain and set up a recording studio for him. Al Khalifa allegedly provided Jackson with $500,000 to subsidize his lifestyle and footed the $350,000 cost of a European vacation.

Al Khalifa's lawyer said Jackson and the Sheikh became close friends and at one time, both lived in a palace in Abu Dhabi owned by Al Khalifa's father, the king of Bahrain. Jackson stayed nearly a year in Bahrain but the relationship between the king's son and the pop star soured when Jackson repudiated a business agreement, according to the AP report.

Jackson's lawyers said the two never entered a valid agreement and the money was given freely as a gift.

The Sheikh is scheduled to testify this week at London's Royal Courts of Justice. Jackson's lawyer reportedly was seeking permission to have the reclusive pop star testify by video link from Los Angeles.
