The third day of the Voodoo Music Experience festival saw the cancellation of a planned appearance by N.E.R.D., but the crowd seemed unfazed by the news--not surprising with the impressive list of bands on the roster.
Among Sunday's (10/26) performers: Lupe Fiasco , Dashboard Confessional , Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Cold War Kids , Cowboy Mouth , Blind Boys of Alabama , and the piece de'la resistance, R.E.M.
As usual R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe had a couple of things to say about politics. During the band's last song, "Man on the Moon," he asked the audience, "Who wants to end the first decade of the 21st Century with hope and change and joy?" According to RollingStone.com, the Obama Change image appeared on the jumbotron as he spoke, causing the crowd of tens of thousands to erupt, with Stipe responding "F---in' awesome!"
