Female all-star charity single for cancer research

Mariah Carey , Beyonce , Mary J. Blige , Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge have recorded a new song in support of Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), a new initiative to raise money for accelerating ground-breaking cancer research, according to a press release. The charity single also features Rihanna, Fergie, Miley Cyrus, Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield, Keyshia Cole, Ciara, Leona Lewis, Leann Rimes and Carrie Underwood.

The song, "Just Stand Up," will be performed simultaneously Sept. 5 on ABC, CBS and NBC during a one hour, commercial-free, prime time television special--the first simultaneous cross-network broadcast ever to raise funds for the fight against a disease, according to event organizers. The song, produced by Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds and Antonio "L.A." Reid, will be available to purchase exclusively at Apple's iTunes store Sept. 2.

The special also will feature appearances by film and television stars, who will present filmed content that will give viewers a unique insight into cancer. Celebrities confirmed for performances, personal appearances or to answer telephone calls include Jennifer Aniston, Christina Applegate, David Cook, Kirsten Dunst, Elizabeth Edwards, America Ferrera, Neil Patrick Harris, Salma Hayek, Christina Ricci and Danica Patrick, among many others.

The show will be hosted by network news anchors Charles Gibson, Katie Couric and Brian Williams who will report on potentially life-saving research, speaking with both patients and scientists. Various screening tests also will be demonstrated.
