Annie Lennox has surgery, Dave Stewart scales back tour
Annie Lennox underwent spinal surgery to release an impinged nerve after she was injured while attending last week's International AIDS Conference in Mexico, according to a press release. The surgery went as planned and Lennox is recuperating at home.
The release date of Lennox's upcoming retrospective album has been moved from Sept. 16 to the Spring of 2009 so the former Eurythmics singer can participate in its promotion.
In other news, Dave Stewart has canceled his large summer tour due to "unforeseen circumstances," according to a statement on his website. Stewart had planned to take his 30-piece "Rock Fabulous Orchestra" on a full-scale North American tour in support of his newest release, "The Dave Stewart Songbook." The album features versions songs he produced and recorded with other artists, including Tom Petty's "Don't Come Around Here No More," No Doubt's "Underneath It All," Mick Jagger's "Old Habits Die Hard" and Celine Dion's "Taking Chances."
Instead of the full-scale tour, Stewart only will be performing in select cities. The dates and venues will be announced at a later date.
Additionally, Stewart will be the featured guest on Rockline Wednesday night (8/20). The radio appearance will include a live acoustic performance.
Stewart also has developed a new rock-inspired clothing line with French fashion designer and entrepreneur Christian Audigier, whose most recent ventures includes the Von Dutch and Ed Hardy lines. The "Rock Fabulous" brand, which hits the stores in the fall, will encompass a broad spectrum of products from perfume to motorcycles. Initial products will include high-end men's and ladies' embellished T-shirts, hoodies, headwear, track jackets and a group of "premium couture" fashion pieces, according to a press release.
