Doctor believes Isaac Hayes suffered a stroke

Soul crooner Isaac Hayes ' doctors attributed the entertainer's death to a stroke, according to a Memphis Commercial Appeal report.

A sheriff's spokesperson said Dr. David Kraus filed paperwork that officially lists the stroke as the cause of death; however, no autopsy has been performed. Kraus reportedly had been treating Hayes for a medical condition that could have led to stroke-related high blood pressure, or hypertension.

Hayes was found Sunday afternoon (8/10) in his Memphis-area home, unconscious on the floor next to a treadmill that was switched on. Hayes, who reportedly suffered a mild stroke in 2006, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators found no sign that Hayes may have been hurt in a fall. The musician's family reportedly is comfortable with the recommendation not to conduct an autopsy.

In related news, Hayes and Bernie Mac, who died only one day before the soul singer's death, will appear together in the new movie "Soul Men," due for release in November.
