Michael Jackson May Perform In Vegas
Michael Jackson reportedly is negotiating a Las Vegas engagement with the private equity firm that put up the money for his Neverland Ranch just days before a scheduled foreclosure, an unnamed source told Access Hollywood.
According to the source, Jackson and Colony Capital are discussing options including a stint at the Las Vegas Hilton as a form of repayment for the $23 million the firm spent to save Jackson's property.
Apparently, they are discussing the possibility of having Jackson perform up to 180 days at a custom-built theater at the Las Vegas Hilton, which is owned by the investment firm. Other scenarios reportedly being discussed include having Jackson perform at other Las Vegas venues or performing between 20-30 times a year, along with his brothers, at a tribute show, akin to The Beatles "Love" show by Cirque du Soleil.
Colony Capital CEO Tom Barrack acknowledged to the Wall Street Journal, "we've been having discussions with Mr. Jackson about a recapitalization and refinancing of Neverland in addition to various other business opportunities and mutual interests."
According to other published reports, the firm has proposed possible television specials as an attempt to rehabilitate Jacksons' image, including an appearance during which the King of Pop would address the child molestation allegations he faced in 2005--reiterating the fact he was exonerated of all charges. Another possible television special would have Jackson performing as part of a charity event to show the public that he can still entertain.
Jackson reportedly is $400 million in debt, though his stake in Sony/ATV Music Publishing is said to be worth at least $500 million.
