The upcoming "Neil Young [ tickets ] Archive" will be released as a series of Blu-ray Discs that use Java technology to give the viewer sophisticated ways of interacting with the content, according to a press release. The Java technology makes it possible to browse archival material while listening to the unsurpassed audio quality provided by the Blu-ray format.

The technology behind the 10-disc set also makes it possible to add content to already released Blu-ray archive volumes by downloading music, film, photographs, recording sessions or other materials that were located after the release of that volume. The additional materials will automatically be assigned their place in the chronology timeline of the specific volume.

The Java technology that enables content updates also will make it possible to download tour information, as well as supporting fan community features such as message boards and concert reviews, according to the release. Viewers also will be able to use a donation mechanism to help support the Bridge School, Young's non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure that individuals with severe speech and physical impairments achieve full participation in their communities through the use of augmentative and alternative means of communication and assistive technology applications.

The first "Neil Young Archive" release, which will be available this fall, will cover Young's career from 1963-1972.
