Tejano Music Star Emilio Begins To Mend
Tejano music star Emilio Navaira , who had been hospitalized in critical condition since a tour bus accident March 23, was upgraded yesterday (4/17) to fair condition, according to published reports.
Navaira, who remains at Memorial Hermann-The Texas Medical Center in Houston, suffered head injuries when he was ejected from the tour bus he was driving. The 45-year-old singer has undergone two surgeries--one for his head injury and the other to repair a rupture in his right lung.
A hospital spokesperson told local media that the upgrade to fair condition is important but doesn't mean Navaira is out of danger. "He's recovered significantly, but he is not walking out of the hospital," hospital spokeswoman Alex Rodriguez told the Houston Chronicle. "We have three conditions we report--critical, fair and good. He is right in the middle. Neurologically, he is better; his lung is better."
Rodriguez reportedly said Navaira remains in the intensive care unit but that could change in a few days.
