Linkin Park To Help Rebuild Homes In New Orleans
Linkin Park will take a break from its current tour Feb. 27 to help families in New Orleans that were displaced by Hurricane Katrina, according to a press release.
Linkin Park, alongside opening act Coheed and Cambria, will join volunteers from Music for Relief and New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity to build homes in the damaged Gulf Coast area.
Linkin Park formed the nonprofit organization Music for Relief in 2005 and six months ago entered into a partnership with Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity to fund and build homes in hurricane ravaged areas. Music for Relief raised the funds for the homes through a multi-platform campaign that included donations, merchandise sales, ticket auctions and other activities online and onsite during Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution tour.
In related news, Linkin Park will be bringing a fan and their guest to assist in the home building. The fan, Adrian Mulloy, won the band's "What I've Done" sweepstakes, which required entrants to submit a video, less than two minutes in length, explaining what he/she has done to make the world a better place. Mulloy's video expressed a strong belief that people must rise to the challenge and help one another in disaster situations.
Linkin Park's Music for Relief has raised more than $2.5 million for the victims of the tsunami tragedy in Southeast Asia and hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
