Malaysian government axes Avril Lavigne concert

Avril Lavigne has been barred from playing a Aug. 29 concert in Kuala Lumpur because the government there thinks her performance would be unsuitable for Malaysian culture, The Vancouver Sun reported.

The youth wing of Malaysia's Islamic opposition party reportedly protested her appearance, saying her show is "too sexy."

Lavigne's show also was deemed problematic because it was scheduled in the days leading up to Malaysian Independence Day, Aug. 31.
