Fellow high school gym class students Travis "Schleprok" McCoy (vocals) and Matt McGinley (drums) formed the band Gym Class Heroes in 1997, and soon found themselves playing regular gigs in their native Geneva, NY. It's hard to believe, but The Roots weren't immediately embraced by hip-hop fans back in the early 90's.
