Elvis Perkins Biography

While singer/songwriter Elvis Perkins' folk music has earned comparisons to the likes of Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, he is also known as the son of actor Anthony Perkins and photographer Berry Berenson (who died during 9/11). Raised in Los Angeles and New York, he started playing guitar in high school and took lessons from Prescott Niles of the Knack. While he did play in ock bands and learned classical guitar, his forte became folk. His full-length debut, Ash Wednesday, was available in early 2007 via XL Recordings. He also plays with a band, known as Elvis Perkins in Dearland (bassist Brigham Brough, keyboardist/guitarist Wyndham Boylan-Garnett, and drummer Nicholas Kinsey). Perkins' résumé includes dates with World Party, Cold War Kids, and the Pernice Brothers as well as contributing a song to the soundtrack of Fast Food Nation. ~ Kenyon Hopkin, All Music Guide
